Who is onyxia in wow

Comment by Heeris Soloed just now as a 79 Blood Deathknight A clever use of Cooldowns is the key to this fight while keeping yourself close to Onyxia for selfhealing. The adds kinda has to die A. Phase 1 and 3 is cake though, only phase 2 which needs some practice. Fight lasted about 40 minutes, and was close to dying a couple of times. They key to the fight is fire resistance. Comment by hemmer Also tried this in Protection Gear, only 5man heroic stuff. Solo'd her no problem, fight lasted a bit over 30mins had to rebuff myself in fight.

Threw on Seal of Light and Judgement of Light, though I swapped to Judgement of Wisdom after a while cause she didn't do nearly any damage on me. I'm a Dwarf Gonny try again in Retribution Spec Those stats are for bear form, which I stayed in all the time aside from when healing.

She was only hitting for in phase 3, so I didn't take as much damage as I expected to. Since its fire damage, you can drop out of bear form to heal and not take any increased damage provided there are no whelps out. I soaked a few deep breaths some things never change but they only ticked for It can be tricky following her moves in phase 2, so lacerate wore off a few times.

I didn't time each phase, but the whole fight took 15 minutes. This might not be the best way to farm gold, but its certainly fun and a good way to get 18 slot bags. Comment by Herecius Onyxia is returning in patch 3. Her infamous Deep Breath is seeing a significant rework, and as such, will doubtless lead to vast amounts of theorywork concerning its mechanics.

Not to worry, I have dataminehaxxed the information from the server, and have worked out precisely the way in which Deep Breath will work. Onyxia's deep breaths are actually going to be Blizzard's first example of achievements having an effect on actual gameplay other than mounts. First off, your 5-man group must have a cumulative total between and achievement points, which will assure that she does her deep breath no more than seven!

Any less, and your intrepid group of would-be champions may face as many as nine breaths. If your cumulative total is above , then she will deep breath no more than five. However, it doesn't stop there! Special attention is paid to raid achievements. Those that have downed every boss in WotLK before 3.

And if your group consists of players that have managed to do every single raid achievement not including realm firsts, but including Algalon on both difficulties , you'll only be hit by one deep breath.

However, those that have at least one player with a realm first kill on Algalon will see 20 deep breaths. Those that consist of a group of all players with realm first achievements on Algalon.. Have fun, and good luck! This mount can only be summoned in Outland and Northrend. I haven't done Onyxia since vanilla and didn't even remember the fight. Phase 1, I tanked in the middle next to a rock formation.

Just spammed strikes. Phase 2, followed her around keeping diseases up and constantly keeping on her and just used pestilence for the adds. They die quick. Phase 3, same as phase 1 with a fear thrown in. Nothing to worry about. Comment by I soloed her as a blood DK, had bin at 80 for a week or something But im sure about that i would make it at lvl Really easy and good cash, soon i will recieve my last slot of theese!

Comment by darknesscalls After the last patch, I noticed that Onyxia deep breaths more. Can anyone confirm? Comment by Me 80 orc hunter for dps surv spec and a 80 healer druid 2 manned it last night.

I just used spellpower food, ice armor and arcane intellect. Maintain ice barrier, fire ward as necessary. If ice barrier drops before cooldown is up use mana shield. Evocation every cooldown to regen mana and health. Comment by Modibybob I solo Ony as often as I can for her backpacks and recipes. Comment by Keiser A couple days ago I did my first Onyxia solo as Prot spec and it took me about an hour, today I figured I'd give it a shot as Ret I'm primarily Ret and so my gear is a bit better there.

Timed it and it took 13 min 50 seconds. Only had to go to SoL maybe 3 times during the whole fight, and only had to use instant FoLs 10 or less times. Comment by hey guys would any high level chars on the relm Daggerspine like to help me run this every one in a while because i really want the helm of wrath that would be sweet if you guys could help!

And does anyone know approximately how long and how many tries it would take me to get the Helm Of wrath? Comment by Keiser Raid just reset and I got her in 10 minutes 43 seconds!

I want to see if someone can do this in under 10 minutes, it's gotta be possible. Comment by Bullfrogg Onyxia makes her triumphant return as a boss in the Trail of Champions! She can be summoned while fighting Argent Confessor Paletress. Comment by Alamandaros Anyone know if it's possible for an Enhance Shaman to kill her, and if so what would be the best time to pop wolves basically what time does she start doing the most damage.

Comment by annerajb On thew new 3. This will be done to celebrate World of Warcraft 5 years Anniversary. This permanent update to Onyxia will convert the dungeon into and player modes. We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding, but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again.

Comment by Belzebutinov About the mount Comment by Magmarrax Thats true. Its on the Blizzard website too. We have solid proof about this. Comment by GravenTerenas Seems that the Orgrimmar-wide buff that used to be given for handing in her head to Overlord Runthak doesn't happen any more. Guessing this is in preparation for the upcoming Onyxia revamp in patch 3. Comment by Akira Downed her today as Lvl 80 Shadowpriest in second try. First try I messed up during P2. Just selfbuffed with Fortitude, Spirit and Inner Fire.

Had about 18,4k life, 18k mana, spellpower and hitcapped. Recount log: Recount - Damage Done for Onyxia 1. Kahuna Comment by As a ret paladin this was an incredibly easy fight. I occasionally have to put up SS and use FoL.

Took about 10 minutes to kill. Get your kills in quick before the upgrade her in 3. Comment by oskar Did this with a pug today on Frostmane eu, 1 healer, 1 tank and 38 good geared dps's.

Only to see how fast it would be, not really funny. Comment by Delnoir We now have word on the new achivements that will be seen in the revamp of Onyxia! More Dots! Many Whelps! Handle it! Comment by henron Assuming you've done Onxyia's Lair and gotten the achievement, it will become a Feat of Strength in 3. Comment by rednas sorry' i havent rlly done the original version of onyxia why the references to the DOT's?

Comment by Tommy39 Also easy soloable as a feral druid. During fases 1 and 3 you can easy remain full life with just Improved Leader of the Pack.

During fase 2 you should need one, two, at least three barkskin-healing touch only when she moves from a spot to another. Comment by Very simple solo as an 80 balance druid. My biggest problem was mana. I used innervate every cooldown and cast lifebloom on every clearcast proc to get free mana back. Used barkskin every cooldown until phase 3, when I saved it for fears.

I kept faerie fire and insect swarm on her, and chain cast starfire otherwise, using treants every cooldown. I kept regrowth up on myself and alternated between rejuv and lifebloom depending on my clearcast procs.

Phase 2 I found it better to tab insect swarm dot the whelps down instead of using hurricane, which puts a huge dent in your mana. Comment by Pretty easy, but took forever as an enhance shaman in decent Naxx 25 resto gear. First attempt was in regular enhancement gear. Sham Rage didn't help too much as the whelps die quickly fast for WF to proc. Died from the inability to heal. Second attempt took about a half hour but went much smoother.

Switch back to your regular enhancement MH, use wolves to burn. Keep tremor up. Dropped 59g, 2 t2 pieces, epic ring, 2 BoE blues, and an 18 slot bag. Weapons were almost broken by the end from fighting so long, so keep an eye on them and switch weapons if you need to. Comment by Maegord If you pull aggro you'll lose 50DKP because you didn't know wtf to do just a reminder. Comment by Paegan Just soloed this on both my L80's to get the achievement before the new raid goes live. Feral druid in Ulduar gear - complete joke, never even had to shift out to heal.

Hunter at about the same gear level - as BM spec the only slightly hard part is avoiding deep breath and fireballs in part 2. My bear with I FD'd through most of part 2 the whelps don't aggro and eventually despawn if you FD and stay down as soon as she takes off, just do it somewhere safe at the side so you dont get hit by deep breaths. Having never raided in vanilla WoW I'm looking forward to doing it for real in the new L80 raid :.

Needed a bit of fire resist to get it done though, so popped to the AH and picked up some budget greens - went in with fire resist and all blues except for weapon which was a smithy epic. Phase 1 and 3 were very easy. Phase 2 was a bit of a pain in the ass.

Helped to use Army of the Dead as soon as this phase started. The ghoul will probably die one or two times in this phase if you haven't been keeping it's health up with death coil, though if it's near death use Death Pact for extra healing.

Really only wanted to get it done before the anniversary. This was added in patch 3. Here is the official quote. Comment by Anyone know were the level 80 loot table can be found? Wonder if my lv 60 Onyxia scale cloak well work :. Comment by ahawk65 As of today, patch 3.

Comment by DreamingDemon What gear level does the new 3. Can it be tanked with Naxx gear? Ulduar gear? ToC gear? Comment by The 10man group I was in ran into a situation where two Onxyia Wardens would spawn nearly immediately after the start of the fight.

Is this normal? Since I have read nothing about it I am very confused. We assumed at first it was part of the encounter, but that seems impossible, our other guess was that they spawn if you get too close to the entrance ramp. Any information is appreciated. Comment by From the strategy intro: "The occasional Fireballs that splash to nearby targets are not too bad, but the Deep Breath preceded by raid warning is enough to decimate a raid.

Comment by Moethetroll This fight seems extreeeeemeely easy and basically of the difficulty of sartharion but getting hit by a lava kills you this time when she deep breaths, look at her, and make sure you ARENT in front of her Comment by Celia Some or all of the tier helms are currently bugged, as they cannot be gemmed. Cast Fire Nova, and Ignite weapon Both of which melee dps should run away from.

Avoided by standing to the sides of her facing direction. The biggest key to the fight is not taking aggro from the main tank AND avoiding the flame breath. Forgot to give credit to the poster above, I copied Mootwo's given strat, but just edited it to accomidate the new changes. Edit 2: Added a Recommended group make up for 25 man.

Edit 5: Added "Tips" Section. Comment by Zorrah Downed here in 10 man tonight. Bunch of wipes but we got it. One of the key things here is to keep some ranged DPS on here in phase Having bad nightmares of classic wow : All in all a fun fight Comment by Ashkir Onyxia on 25 man is easy.

Basically when you see the deep breath emote, run to a side. The whelps should now come out, and have the melee stay on the whelps and the ranged on Onyxia. Phase two is a quick phase. Phase three, it is ideal to tank her against the back of the room, and ranged standing to her side. This way when fear happens you don't hit the whelp rooms, and it is easier to see when the lair adds come out.

Wipes: One. Lag was the cause. Comment by I miss the Old Onyxia already :. Comment by Aeolyn As a Hunter, I found my wolf pet to not be very helpful during this fight. The AP buff was fine and all but my pet wasn't capable of reaching Ony during the flight phase not shocking, I know. I ended up swapping out for my old Windserpent and was delighted to see that the lightning breath was perfectly capable of shooting a flying Ony. We didn't have a whole lot of ranged DPS in our 10man so this was actually quite helpful.

Comment by Supahtoons Am I the only one that noticed that you can't melee her during Phase 2 anymore? Comment by So is there a way that we can still do prebc onyxia? Whelps have 63, Health and hit tanks for about melee damage after armor reduction. While the first wave of whelps during the second phase did seem to be 40 whelps, subsequent waves later in the phase seemed to have fewer. No enrage timer. First and Second phases can be slow and controlled.

Onyxia Lair Guard , Health They hit tanks for about to melee damage after armor reduction. They cast Ignite Weapon, dealing about 15, fire damage. Resistible via fire resistance. Blast Nova has a very short range, you can start running away after it's halfway through the cast and still avoid damage. No real reason to rush this phase. Don't blow long-time CDs or anything.

Phase 2 At first, group up on the second tank until he has all of the Whelps, then AoE them fast once they're all hitting him.

By the time they die you should see the first Guard coming. Only nuke the Guard when the tank has grabbed him. If there is a whelp wave coming then group up on the secnd tank and let him grab them all before doing anything to them. If there is a Guard coming, it's going to run by the main tank so just let the Guard run to him. Only when the second tank has all whelps does anyone change to AoE them, and only when the Guard is held in position does everyone nuke it.

If neither of those conditions is met, everyone who can should be nuking Onyxia. If Onyxia is out of range of the ranged DPS, just wait for her to come back. Again there is no enrage timer and you're in no hurry during this phase if you have the DPS to kill the Whelp waves and Guards quickly. Phase 3 At the start, eliminate remaining adds from second phase.

After that just survive and nuke. This is the most chaotic phase, so blow those big cooldowns to end it quickly. It's really easy if you can get the second phase coordination down.

Tank lets Guard run to him. O Note: The distance between the two tanks shouldn't be more than maybe 15 in-game yards. As far as positioning, just have the second tank stand at the back of the room, with the healers and ranged all close around him in a circle.

This is for three reasons: 1 The group is all near the back to quickly get to the walls for Deep Breaths, 2 when whelp waves come all the ranged can quickly group up on that tank so he can grab all of the whelps even if they go for healer aggro initially, and 3 the ranged and healers are all out of range of the Guard's Blast Nova if it casts one. The bug detailed below has since been fixed by Blizzard in a patch. Bug information only struck-through and kept for sake of posterity.

If you enchant the helm, you can then gem it. Comment by yzerman From the strategy intro: "The occasional Fireballs that splash to nearby targets are not too bad, but the Deep Breath preceded by raid warning is enough to decimate a raid.

Comment by Biske Onyxia is no longer immune to Fire. Comment by This is all well and good but what about the lvl 60 gear is it no longer possible to get it as i was in the process of getting it. Comment by So where is this Onyxia pet? It's not in my inbox when I log in.

Comment by Nougati Solution Comment by Has anyone seen or heard anything about the Onxyia Mount? I am trying to find out if it is man or man or both.

In all the loot tables I have seen for her I have yet to see the mount. Anyone got any help? I am a fury warrior, 2 pieces t9, rest t8.

Easy fight. First phase is a joke for any decently geared DPS. Second phase is annoying, but I consider it a retard check. Stay out of deep breath.

Even if you can't get behind her, run to the walls and let heals take care of it. Third phase is same as first, with tons of fear flying around. Shammy totem is very useful because fear will put you either in range of the lava spurts around the room or her VERY hard hitting cleave. Overall, easy encounter. Did it in 3 tries. Comment by Addams Phase 1 is a simple dragon, tank her with your back against the wall to avoid her knockback Phase 2 has two types of adds, - Whelps have to be grouped up and AoEed down, - Big adds spawn in pairs of 2 and hit hard, so they have to be picked up quickly - When she uses deep breath, run behind her.

Comment by How hard is this encounter is it like the new instance or ulduar or wut? Comment by darkness1d I want to add this idea.

They need to die quickly, as their abilities can be dangerous even for geared tanks. If you got a good healer, the tank would not have a problem if their health is in a good place.

If the Whelps and Lair Guards spawn at the same time, just put both group together and AOE them down, it is easier for the tanks. Yes, the range should move toward the tanks when the Whelps come. Comment by Santee It is not a good idea to put melee dps on the Lair Guards.

They will cast an AOE in a while which does about 20k fire damage, or all melee dps must immediately run away when the Lair Guard starts casting. Comment by StumpJumper I did it failed in 25 and 10 lastnight. Its a lot faster, and ranged can stay on Ony. We had tanks grab whelps, bring them to the middle, and then DPS ranged Nukes them down.

Spotting Ony during DB can be tricky, so you Have to keep on your toes, or desiginate a "spotter" and understand your spotters Lingo. Additionally, We had a Very hard time hitting Ony from the ground with Mele. I Ret Pally targeted her and ran "under" her, and when I saw a White swing, I tossed a spell as well. I recomend Ranged burn her down on phase 2, unless All of your Mele can hit her. When she Enters Phase 2, she turns away and walks to the entrance of the cave before Flying.

Mele should chase her from behind and Hit her Hard while she walks. I got off 4 white swings and around 3 or 4 spells during that walk. Also - During the Initial fight, I found that her Hit Box is So big that I stood under the Joint of her wing mid body and was able to hit with everything, but was not in the way of cleaves and wing buffets.

It looks like you are too far away, but you are not. Good Luck. Comment by Willias It is not a good idea to put melee dps on the Lair Guards. Comment by There is a lot of speculation, encounter mechanic, and plain stupid guessing going on about this encounter. The three things that will enable you to beat Ony easymode 1 wipe in a pug and down. It hurts. That means look where she is when you get the letters on your screen, and go where she isn't looking.

That could be behind her or the sides of where she is looking. Have one ready to pick Ony up when she lands and take her back to the North wall. It isn't a DPS race. Follow these three tips, and you will not fail. What I mean by this, is don't bring people who hear "Deep Breath" and run into the middle like chickens with their heads cut off.

Comment by Lucid As soon as you see the raid warning, note where Onyxia is facing and run behind her as quickly as possible. Comment by CanadianSniper No longer immune to fire damage. Deep Breath got nerfed. Pretty sure the Fear lasted longer in vanilla. Although Onyxia is brought back for Blackwing Descent raid, her location is not the lair as it was before.

Although it is no longer the highest level raid, there are still achievements to be had and also there is a mount that drops. The entrance to the raid is a giant dragons jaw the outer jaw doesn't close but there is a small jaw which needs opening for you to enter the raid. The quickest way to get to the raid is to teleport to Theramore Isle If Alliance then fly Mudsprocket and the either fly or travel over land to the entrance. The location of the entrance to the Onyxia raid is the north side of the large rock to the east of Mudsprocket, to the south of Wyrmbog.

There is a small amount of trash that you need to kill but it shouldn't be too hard. If you are Horde , the quickest way is to get a teleport to the Caverns of Time or to Thunder Bluff , the Tauren capital and then fly to the instance. Nothing is further from reality! Onyxia will launch Fireballs that will have to be healed and forces the band to remain more than 10 meters from each other to avoid massive damage.

I almost forgot However, we will see a band warning that will alert us to what is going to happen. At that moment all they will drop whatever they were doing, look in which direction Onyxia is pointing, and stand behind her in the opposite direction.

The deep breath is tremendously mortal. The damage on the band will be constant especially for the tank. In this phase he will use all the abilities of the first phase that is, the dragon ones in addition to the Roaring roar which will make us run for 3 seconds and erupt as we run. In addition, hatchlings will continue to appear although in smaller numbers.

A few ranged DPS would finish them off quickly. It's a good idea to use fire protection skills like Paladin Aura or Shaman Totem to mitigate all damage dealt. To this end, she had begun manipulating many mortals and dragons alike to her own ends and wielded considerable political power over many groups. Onyxia initiates combat using her breath weapon and then moves directly into melee, preferably targeting soft targets such as spellcasters.

If given a chance to prepare before battle, she uses defensive spells to augment her fighting ability. When she is damaged too much, Onyxia takes to the air.

If she is still sustaining a great deal of damage in the air, she sticks to spells, to make sure she can retreat if badly wounded. If heavily injured she either retreats if in open air or descends to the ground to reenter melee if inside her lair. She attempts to land on her enemies and crush them as she comes down to the ground.

When she reaches the ground, she immediately uses Deep Breath against the largest group of opponents within range. At this point, she fights to the death if necessary, retreating only if a chance presents itself. If engaged while in human form, she fights using spells unless her attackers clearly know she is a dragon; if her enemies know her identity, she tries to retreat to her lair.

Lady Katrana Prestor and Lord Bolvar Fordragon serve as the king's main advisors, and they pretty much call the shots. However, Bolvar is not one to insult the judgment of an "educated" lady like Katrana Prestor.

It seems like her advice is pretty much the exact opposite of anything a logical person with half a brain would come up with. As a result of Lady Prestor's intervention, proper human leadership has become impossible. She doesn't seem to think the other races are necessary.

Katrana won't even allow the king to send reinforcements to human lands that desperately need it, such as Duskwood and the Redridge Mountains. Every report of enemy activity on those fronts is shot down for lack of "proof", despite knowledge of dead men and women. It's unknown what she did to get the prince's ear, but for whatever reason she's managed to keep both the king and Lord Bolvar following her directions and some of them are clearly nonsense.

She's just playing games with the Alliance troops when they have good men and women dying out on the front. Her motivations are unknown; she's certainly either working for something malicious, or she is malicious herself. Onyxia in her reanimated form, as seen in Hearthstone. Onyxia appears as a legendary card in Hearthstone. You would have thought that the giant wings and scales would have been a giveaway.

She also appears in her reanimated form in the final battle against Nefarian in the Hidden Laboratory Blackwing Descent , the fifth and final wing of the Blackrock Mountain adventure. After removing all of Nefarian's armor by dealing sufficient damage to him, Nefarian flies up into the air and the player must then defeat Onyxia before facing Nefarian again.

Lady Katrana Prestor appears as an alternate mage hero , available as part of the pre-order for United in Stormwind. She also appears as a legendary card in the same expansion. Her flavor text reads: " Relives his nightmare every day a new Horde player is created.

It is uncertain if Katrana Prestor claimed any relation to Daval Prestor , the human guise of Deathwing , though it is presumed that Katrana claimed to be his daughter, just as her true identity Onyxia is the daughter of Daval's true identity Deathwing.
