Of particular interest to local residents is the fate of the two housing estates in the plan; Gibbs Green and West Kensington housing estates, which locals are fighting hard so save from developers. Whatever happens over the next decade, the development will go-ahead in some shape or form providing thousands of new homes and new amenities for Earls Court residents.
You can follow the latest news on the development on My Earls Court or the Capco website. You can see the residents opposition at Save Earls Court. For many years it was the area of choice for young Aussies who came to London to work, party and explore Europe. Because of the strength of the Australian economy and Dollar and the fact that London has got more expensive, many young Aussies choose to stay at home to get their vital first years of work experience.
The expats that remain are slightly more mature and spread across all areas of London rather than flocking together in certain areas. Like the Australians, Earls Court is also moving on and we will watch the development of the area with interest over the coming years.

Earl's Court is mainly written with an apostrophe and Barons isn't — something that has baffled and infuriated pedants through the years. One historian argues that the name is derived from an estate in Ireland called 'B arenscourt' that Palliser had a link to. However, most believe Palliser was just poking fun at Earl's Court — and maybe the grammar police of the future too. Oh the lols. Rather satisfyingly, the naming of Ravenscourt Park involves both a large black bird and another person who liked to take the piss.
The house was rebuilt in and sold to Thomas Corbett in — more than 30 years before Kensington would get its first lord. It was Thomas who named it Ravenscourt, and historians believe it was most likely named after the raven on his coat of arms, which was itself a pun on his name corbeau is French for raven. So there we have it: west London has all the courts, many earls, and at least two historical jokers. The best things to do in London. The must-read London articles.
